Jacques Schwarz-Bart—born in Guadeloupe and based in Boston after studying at the Berklee College of Music (where he currently teaches)—is a major figure in contemporary jazz. A pioneer of Gwoka jazz and Voodoo jazz, his work engages in a dialogue with Afro-Caribbean traditions, spirituality, and collective memory.
