Three parapsychologists — Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler — lose their cushy jobs at Columbia University after a bizarre incident at the New York Public Library. Discharged and out of work, they decide to start their own paranormal investigation business, Ghostbusters, from an old firehouse, equipping themselves with proton packs and ghost traps.
