Led by Charlotte Mandy (PhD Student, Columbia University Classical Studies), this workshop invites teachers to further incorporate Roman slavery into ancient history curricula by examining slavery as both a ubiquitous legal phenomenon and a varied spectrum of experience. Through concrete case studies ranging from transactional papyri to the tombstone of a child miner, participants will engage with material and visual culture to present students with a deeper understanding of everyday life in the ancient world.
