Billy Lester, from Yonkers, NY, began playing piano at age 41/2 and studied with the great Jazz master improviser Sal Mosca for 15 years. His music is a high-wire act of improvisation that plunges into the American songbook to interrogate, dismantle, and rebuild it on his own terms.
