Larry Gopnik (Michael Stuhlbarg) lives a very cozy life in 1960s Minnesota. A physics professor, he has built a life out of bricks, but that doesn't stop fate from crumbling his stability around him. As his personal and professional spheres collapse quickly and entirely, his existential dread skyrockets while the rationality that defined his life quickly dissipates in what many consider one of the best riffs on the Book of Job.
